Three police officials apprehended for R5m corruption

Three police officials are in custody for allegedly trying to extract R5 million from Ekurhuleni Mayor.

City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina thanked the city for arresting the suspects and other involved individuals in corruption.

“The suspects are alleged to have record implicating Masina, city manager Imogen Mashazi, member of the mayoral committee (MMC). They are in charge of human settlements Lesiba Mpya, and other senior political figures in the region in corruption and malfeasance. The three suspects were involved in WhatsApp messages that went viral three months ago. The messages claimed Masina’s administration to have engaged in corruption activities. The messages were aimed to intimidate Masina and Mpya into paying the R5 million to the police officials”, said Masina.

He added that he felt justified by the arrest of three police officers. Masina said he is impressed by effectiveness and response by South African Police Services (SAPS) and Ekurhuleni metro police by arresting the corrupt police services.

“Today the truth is out, they tried the plot of malicious and distraction of this administration from continuing to offer quality services to people. The City of Ekurhuleni is committed to zero-tolerance corruption and we will arrests people who do corruption”, said Masina.
