Banyana Banyana lost 1-0 to China in Paris at the FIFA Woman’s World Cup, leaving their world cup dreams in tatters on Thursday night. They have just one last match to play with Germany until their trip back home.
It was another brave performance from Coach Desiree Ellis side, but they did not offer enough going forward and the Chinese largely managed to quell the lone threat of the rapid Thembi Kgatlana.
Ellis’ side managed a single shot on target in the game and that was a brilliant effort from 30-yards, even though they did have some decent spells of pressure without a real cutting edge.
China saw plenty of early ball, however they battled to create openings in the Banyana’s box as the defence was intact. But soon after 40 minutes into play china found their way behind Banyana’s net scoring their winning goal from Zhang Rui’s cross. The ball was skilfully met by Li Ying, whose touch took the ball straight to the net.
China will need to beat Spain in their last game to progress, with Germany already assured of a second round place.
