Kaizer Chiefs has enjoyed an unbeaten record in the Absa Premiership this season but that ended on Saturday. Polokwane City arrived at FNB stadium with the intention of building a strong defense and not allowing any Chiefs player to pass.
Their big break came in the fifteenth minute, within the first half, when Amakhosi goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi committed a foul against Charlton Mashumba in the box resulting in an early penalty.
Jabulani Maluleke stepped up to the plate and utilized this golden opportunity to put City in the lead. This seems to have woken up Chiefs, from their temporary stupor, who retaliated with a strong counterattack but were unable to score a goal.
Eric Matoho missed an opportunity to equalize by just a few inches wide when he struck a wonderful header. Towards the middle of the second half Polokwane City appeared to have regained their initial composure and beefed up their defense. Even Amakhosi’s golden boy Khama Billiat could not penetrate City’s strong defense.
