Suspect arrested for murder

Police arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for murder in Vrededorp yesterday, 6 October 2019, at approximately 5am.

It is alleged that the suspect stabbed a 22-year-old male once in the upper body on 7th Street and De La Rey (Vrededorp). This happened after a fist fight had ensued between the two, at a street bash, sparked by an earlier disagreement.

After the situation had been diffused, by intervening bystanders, the suspect then stabbed the unsuspecting victim. The victim had been enjoying himself with a friend at this particular street bash when the argument that followed yielded a tragic outcome.

He was taken to the hospital by his family where he was declared dead on arrival. “Community members alerted the police and a suspect was arrested in his place of residence. Clothes with blood stains were confiscated for further investigations. The knife used in the commission of this crime has not yet been discovered”, explains Captain Mbele.

The suspect will appear soon at the Brixton Magistrate Court and the investigation is currently under way.
