Veteran actress Vatiswa Ndara has caused a stir in the entertainment industry after posting an open letter on Twitter addressed to Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa.
In the letter Ndara details the strenuous conditions actors have to work under in order to meet tight deadlines and save costs. ‘The working conditions actors are expected to accept often border on abuse.
The working hours are long, actors are expected to push as many scenes as possible to save costs for production sick leave and other standard working conditions are not respected’, read an excerpt from her letter.
Ndara even uploaded the terms of her current contract with Ferguson Films where she revealed the exact amount she’d be earning while shooting the latest season of, drama series, Igazi. The star complained about channels and production houses pocketing more from these shows even after they have stopped airing while actors seek another gig.
Vatiswa was supported by some local actors who commended her bravery and expressed similar views.
