Tuck Shop owner shot dead after a robbery

The owner of Skiller Trading Enterprise tuck shop was shot numerous times by two unknown men who came inside the shop, they were both armed with firearms in Mapetla, Soweto. One of the men pointed a firearm at the owner and allegedly took his cell phone worth R2,000 and three bottles of Hennessy, six Jameson whiskey bottles, and they also stole an amount of R10 000 at the scene.

“On their way out of the tuck shop they shot the owner in the upper body while he stood outside. One of the neighbours rushed him to Chiawelo Clinic where he later died,” said spokesperson of Moroka Police station Captain Khosa.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects was sought and apprehended by community members who subsequently burnt him beyond recognition. Captain Khosa added, “More than 10 empty cartridges were found on the scene, Norinko pistol with no serial number, one cell phone and a wallet belongs to the deceased suspect who was apprehended by the community.”

However, the other suspect is still on the run and the South African Police Services are currently investigating the case. Two counts of murder have been opened and a case of business robbery was also opened, but it is not known who killed and burnt the other suspect who was apprehended by the community of Mapetla.

“We appeal to the community to not take the law into their own hands whenever a person is suspected of committing any crime, but to hand suspects over to the police,” said Captain Khosa.
