Chippa United obliterated by Bidvest Wits

The remaining teams are currently battling it out to move on to the next phase of the Nedbank Cup and this past weekend was filled with action when Bidvest Wits faced off against Chippa United. Playing on their home ground, in Braamfontein, Bidvest Wits did not take too long to start aiming for the net when got an early corner.

Bidvest Wits striker Bienvenu Eva Nga missed an early goal when his header went a few inches wide from a corner kick in the opening 10 minutes. It didn’t take long, however, for their perseverance to pay off as Elias Pelembe took another corner kick which landed on defender Thulani Hlatshwayo’s head and hit the back of the net. The home team was up by one goal and it appeared to liven up the small crowd on the stands.

The 28th minute saw the illustrious Elias Pelembe swiftly take yet another corner kick and pass it on to midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange who didn’t blink twice. Upon trapping the ball Nange struck a beautiful shot, just the outside of the box, which caused confusion amongst Chippa United players before passing the goalkeeper and heading into the net.

2-0 already in the first half Chippa was being obliterated by Wits but this is soccer and anything is possible, right? The first half came to a close with the score being 2- 0 and Chippa still finding it difficult to score a goal.

As the second half kicked off Wits went on the attack which saw goal-scorer Nange try for another opportunity but was saved by goalkeeper Veli Mothwa. The ever illustrious Pelembe tried to score Wits’ third goal in the 54thminute, when they got a free kick inches from the box, but was once again saved by Mothwa.

As the game came to an end it was pretty clear that Wits had come to war prepared and on the other hand Chippa did not have a single shot on target.
