Second suspect arrested for Sphiwe Sibeko’s rape, murder

Police have arrested a second person in connection with the raping and killing of a 14-year-old girl in Dobsonville, Soweto.

Siphiwe Sibeko’s body was found mutilated and raped in Mndeni last Friday. This was after she went missing on Thursday while on her way to a tuckshop in Dobsonville.

Sibe was a Grade 9 at Aurora Girls’ High School in Johannesburg has become a 23rd Gauteng pupil to die since the beginning of this year.

Officers said that the suspect was arrested in White City in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Earlier this week, police handcuffed a 22-year-old man who was suspected of being one of the killers.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said: “They both appeared before the Protea Magistrates Court after the second suspect was arrested in the early hours of today.”

Police said that they were searching for one more person.
