Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Blade Nzimande paid a visit to the Tshwane University of Technology(TUT) Ga-Rankuwa Campus in Pretoria.
The purpose of the Tuesday visit was to monitor the state of readiness and progress towards the planned phased return of students at the university.
55% of the students at TUT are NSFAS(National Student Finincial Aid Scheme) beneficiaries are from rural areas said Dr Nzimande.
The minister said he’s impressed with the state of readiness at the university.
“TUT has made use of their laboratories as they will be producing sanitizers and disinfectants for the university which will be also be supplied to surrounding communities”said the minister.
The university said it had made plans with regards to multi modal remote learning.
Academic support for students will be provided by delivering learning material to their respective provinces.
“With all the support that I will be reporting today,I remain gratified by the support and the exemplary leadership provided by President Ramaphosa and my colleagues at the National Command Council in guiding our work at this difficult time”said Minister Nzimande.
