Thabo Nchako (30) was born and bred in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria. Nchako is the co-founder of the Bluedenimhats. The creative and vibrant designer is known for his creative and unique style of converting denim clothes into attractive stylish hats.
The love of fashion and transforming clothes has seen him become the best among his peers. Nchako caught up with Gauteng News to share the passion behind his love for designing. His journey started after completing matric in 2007 at Modiri High School.
“I fell in love with designing 11 years ago. I was inspired by my grandmother who was also a sharp seamstress. I strongly believe she’s the one who passed me the torch. I decided to filter the kind of products I make and focused more on being a hat designer”,said Nchako.
Nchako studied Fine and Applied Arts at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) from 2010 -2013 where he dropped out to pursue his passion.
“During my first and second year everything was good, I was learning new stuff and doing well with the course. In 2013 during my final year to obtain my diploma, I decided to stop everything because my calling was too strong,” said Nchako.
He said since the public had become aware of his creative work he will be employing additional staff to assist him.
“There’s a high demand and time management is key therefore, I’m working on bringing few people on board to help with production,” said Nchako.
He further advised youth to be patient, explore and connect with those who inspire them.
“Being patient with yourself is key. We live and learn therefore- run your own race, fail, learn and get up stronger.” said Nchako.
