Trio suspects killed in shootout in Marlboro

The South African Police Service (SAPS) have confirmed that three suspects were shot and killed in a shoot-out in Marlboro, Gauteng on Wednesday.  The trio suspects were gunned down during a shoot-out between members of the Hawks Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS) and Gauteng Saturation Unit.

Assisted by private security companies, the joint team received a tip-off about a suspected vehicle which was going to be used in an armed robbery. According to spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the team managed to spot the suspected vehicle on the M1 highway.

“When the officers tried to stop the suspected vehicle, the suspects opened fire and a shoot-out ensued wherein three of the suspects were fatally wounded and the fourth was arrested,” said Mogale.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was used in a home invasion in Paulshof, Fourways 20 minutes before they were apprehended.

“The vehicle was affixed with false registration plates. Further probing found that the vehicle was sought in a Parkview home invasion.” said Mogale

Two 9mm firearms were recovered from the scene – one had its serial number filed off. Items including a plasma television from the Paulshof robbery were recovered.

“The arrested suspect will appear in court soon on charges of attempted murder, house robbery and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,” Mogale concluded.
