Boyfriend arrested after woman body was found in his yard

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after the decomposing body of his 44-year-old girlfriend was found in a shallow grave in Sharpville, Sedibeng at Gauteng on Monday. It is reported that the relatives of the deceased confronted the suspect about the whereabouts of the woman.

The confrontation comes after the deceased relatives attempted to call her since Christmas Day with no success. Gauteng Police Spokesman, Captain Mavela Masondo said the deceased relatives went with the suspect to Sharpeville SAPS to report a missing person.

“The relatives went with the suspect to Sharpeville SAPS to report a missing person after the latter who was staying with the deceased, denied any knowledge of her whereabouts,”

Captain Masondo told Gauteng News a preliminary investigation led the police to the suspect’s house in Sharpeville.

“The members arrived on site to a stench coming from the backyard and immediately activated the relevant role players that include Search and Rescue K9. The operation by the K9 indeed confirmed that a body was buried in the yard,”

“The pathology services exhumed the body from a shallow grave and the identity of the deceased was subsequently determined and confirmed by the family members. The suspect was arrested on the spot and charged with the murder of her girlfriend,”

The murder suspect is expected to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate Court on Thursday.
