Police arrest 600 suspects during ‘O kae molao’ operation in Tembisa

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and South African Police Services (SAPS) arrested 600 suspects yesterday on different crimes, during a joint operation of ‘O kae molao’and road blocks in Ivory Park ,Tembisa.

Gauteng police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led the anti-crime campaign, which became a success during this time of the year where people return to work from festive holidays.

“Police were sent to different hot spot areas, did road blocks where there was stop and search to motorists. They found a car that was stolen and illegal weapons at Swazi Inn in Tembisa. A total number of 110 people got arrested for allegations of gender based violence.

Two suspects got apprehended for possession of drugs with an intension to distribute them, another suspect with possession of 80 nyaope packets and 18 packets of rock during operation search in Ivory Park. Many foreigners linked to drugs dealing were arrested. Another suspect was nabbed after found with anunlicensed firearm and ammunitions during road blocks”, Mawela said.

He said six foreigners from Mozambique and Zimbabwe were also arrested after failing to provide documents which allow them to be in South Africa legally.
