Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA MEC Lebohang Maile has on Monday handed over new RDP houses to beneficiaries at Dan Tloome in Randfontein.
Maile said the beneficiaries have been on a waiting list and some are backyard tenants who have been renting for many years. He said the department chose people who deserve to get RDPs.
“Department of Housing is aware of the backlog and aims to deliver services to Gauteng residents. We are handing over 100 title deeds and newly built RDP houses. Soon there will be 2021 local government elections. Residents elect us with an aim to deliver services to them. We should always listen to their concerns”, he added.
One of the beneficiaries said she is happy to receive a shelter after waiting for a long time.
“I am happy to receive my house and the department of housing did a good job. Those who have registered should not lose hope because one day they will get a shelter. I waited for a long time and it was not easy. It does not matter whether I get it before elections or not”, said beneficiary.
