Phase two of Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre construction to commence soon

The Kaalfontein Multipurpose centre will be constructed in the second quarter of 2021 in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Department of Development Planning MMC Thapelo Amad said the centre is in line with City of Johannesburg 2040 Growth and Development Strategy. He said the projects will be completed in two years.

“Phase one of the building was completed at the end of 2020. It was construction of platforms, perimeter fence, guard house, service reticulations such as water, sanitation, storm-water and electrical power. Phase two of the project involves construction of the main building”, he added.

Amad said the facility will supplement different developments that have been taking place in Kaalfontein. He said they include Kaalfontein intersection upgrade and upgraded state-of-art eco-friendly Kaalfontein clinic.

“We want to focus on systematical change of special landscape of the City of Joburg. Our aim is to offer residents rightful access and increase economic activities. The department wants to promote sustainable lives of City citizens”, he said.

Amad said Kaalfontein and its surrounding areas remain a major backlog in terms of infrastructure.

“At the multipurpose centre is where different social facilities are clusters. It needs our key strategy which provides a basis to stimulate growth and development in the community”, said Amad.
