Passenger bus company, Putco says it will pay R105,000 to the families of the six commuters who died last week.
Six people died on Friday afternoon when the bus they were traveling in caught fire, trapping them inside.
All 6 commuters were burnt beyond recognition while 14 others were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Putco’s Matlakala Motloung said R30 000 of the money will go towards funeral costs.
“Putco will make available an amount of R30 000 per Deceased family for the funeral arrangements, plus an additional R75 000 per the family of each Deceased passenger. Two buses per family will also be made available for the funeral arrangements,” said Motloung.
Motloung said Putco has immediately appointed an independent Forensic Expert to probe the cause of the incident, and they are fully co-operating with all the authorities, including the police, to understand the cause of the incident.
“Putco will also assist the injured passengers, as well as the families of the Deceased to lodge claims with the Road Accident Fund. Details of the contact person, in this regard, will be made available in the coming days,” said Motloung.
There are still three passengers admitted; one at Montana, another at Steve Biko Academic hospital and the third one at Kwa-Mhlanga hospital.
