Nelson Mandela Day inspired donation at Tshwane

In the city of Tshwane, the department of Community and Social Development Services donated 40 Blankets and 40 hygiene packs to the residents of the Hofmeyer Inn old age home.

The MMC for Community and Social Development Services Councillor Thabisile Vilakazi said that the residents at the old age were in a desperate need for blankets to keep warm as the winter chill continues.

She stated that the donation was inspired by Nelson Mandela Day. “The donation forms part of activities marking Nelson Mandela Day and as the department of Community and Social Development Services, we plan on assisting those in need throughout the month of July,” Vilakazi added.

Their aim is to ensure that they embrace the opportunity to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy for the whole month. Vilakazi also noted that she is happy with the community members who are helping after a devastating fire.

She said that the city attended to the matter of the fire and they are providing 500 hygiene packs, 200 mattresses, 200 blankets and 150 food packs. “As the City of Tshwane, we will continue to assist where we can especially during times of misfortune,” adds Vilakazi.

“I would like to encourage all the residents of Tshwane to support and donate to the vulnerable in their communities,” she concluded.
