Cricket South Africa (CSA) will host the Proteas’ iconic New Year’s Day test match in Gauteng. The golden province would play host to the national cricket team’s long format test match against Sri Lanka. This would be in a two-match series which is expected to kick off in December this year.

Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) Acting CEO Barba Gaoganediwe was jubilant to welcome this decision.

“This is very exciting news for destination Gauteng as it once again underlines the faith in the province to organise and host major sporting events. We admiringly attribute this to our quality, globally competitive and COVID-19 certified sporting and related infrastructure,” Gaoganediwe said.

As the city region of SA, Gauteng has positioned itself as a globally competitive destination of choice. According to Gaoganediwe this principle has also accompanied the province during this difficult period of a COVID-19 global outbreak.

Gauteng Tourism working together with Gauteng Department of Sports and Gauteng Cricket is at the forefront and ready to welcome and host sporting fixtures. Gaoganediwe added and said that these two departments will also host global sporting fans alike with the same warmth and hospitality it always had.

“As we envision and hope for a brighter and freer future as champion hosts, we look forward to welcoming some of the best cricket players from around the world to our province once again,” he said.

Gaoganediwe further outlined that this will be done while adhering to all the necessary health and safety protocols.

“We remain geared up to connecting our visitors to our world-class infrastructure and extraordinary landscapes; whilst immersing them in our dynamic cultural experiences and splendid tourism offerings,” he said.
