The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Patrol Unit (JMPD SPU) received 40 new high performance vehicles which were delivered by the MMC for Public Safety, Councilor Micheal Sun, at the Public Safety Department Headquarters in Martindale.
This follows the EMS vehicles that were handed over last month by Mayor Herman Mashaba as part of the City’s renewal programme. The 40 new Volkswagen Golf GTI vehicles will be used by the JMPD SPU in their daily tasks such as attending accident scenes, rapid deployment to crime scenes, land invasions, dealing with road traffic offenses at identified hotspots, visible policing, patrol and events management.
This deployment will help to assist hot spot traffic areas, attending and responding to crime ASAP, with the festive season approaching this will ensure safer roads for the residents and community members. The City of Johannesburg supports the JMPD officers to be fully equipped with resources and vehicles that will assist them in dealing with criminal acts adequately.
