Midvaal residents woke up to a strong show of force after Gauteng authorities intensified service delivery and law enforcement operations — leading to 44 arrests and the seizure of illegal goods worth over R126 000.
The high-impact operation took place on Friday, 13 February 2026, with multiple law enforcement agencies joining forces to clamp down on crime, illegal goods, and unsafe vehicles across the municipality.
Leading the charge was Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, supported by SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Police, Metro Police Departments and local traffic authorities. Roadblocks targeted reckless driving, unroadworthy vehicles and illegal goods moving through the area. Authorities also issued 69 traffic fines totalling R46 800.
In a separate breakthrough, police responded swiftly to a hijacked Renault vehicle in De Deur. The incident led to an exchange of gunfire between suspects and officers. Three suspects linked to the crime were arrested and two illegal firearms were confiscated. Community cooperation played a key role, with residents working closely with community patrollers and police to assist investigations.
Government leaders also inspected key infrastructure and housing projects across Midvaal. At the Sicelo Shiceka development, 540 serviced stands and 540 housing units have been completed, with solar installations now underway. Meanwhile, the Lethabong development has already serviced over 1 600 stands, with more than 900 houses completed.
Authorities also tackled environmental challenges, visiting the Redan illegal dumping site where an action plan has been set to restore the area and improve community conditions.
Farmers in the region also received support during a special Farmer’s Imbizo in Mayerton, where officials addressed concerns around livestock theft, equipment crime and access to animal medication and vaccines.following inten…
