Refined Plug creations together with Maitjibulo Primary school organized a public reveal for the 800m champion Caster Semenya by writing 800 letters and poems to support the athlete against the IAAF.
The messages were wrote to support women’s month dedication for Caster Semenya and express their love for the 800m champion.
Kgothatso Kgomo who is the founder of Refined Plug, in an interview with Gauteng News said, “We as Refined Plug creations wanted to do a PR campaign with Maitjibulo Primary in Katlehong wanted to send messages of support to Caster especially with the IAAF case she’s facing. If the Caster doesn’t perform in the international athletics the children will feel they are being robbed of someone they are looking up to in athletics and this case against her is killing their dreams.”
Refined Plug creations will be sending the letters, poems and videos taken by the 800 learners to the Gauteng department of Sports, Arts and Culture to show the world that they are in solidarity with Semenya against the IAAF case.
“To add on that we gave the learners background information about when Caster won her first championship in Berlin at the age of 18. We explained to the kids what the IAAF case is all about, but we also felt the need to inform that it was not about caster being discriminated about her physic but it runs deep because she is an African. There are many athletics who have high testosterone but were never discriminated like what Semenya is going through”, said Kgomo.
Local press attended the public reveal.
Refined Plug is planning to spread the initiative throughout Ekurhuleni and show support for the 800m champion. This will take place throughout women’s month.
Kgomo added that, “One learner said something to me and I find it remarkable, he said if sports was meant for average people then everyone will be getting a gold medal and that’s the sole reason we show support for our champion.”
