Legendary radio personality Bob Mabena’s virtual memorial service is expected to take place yesterday, while the funeral service will commence at 12:30am on Saturday. This was announced by his family and Power FM, where he was a presenter of Power Breakfast at the time of his untimely passing.

The radio station said both services would be streamed on different social media platforms.

“We recognise and appreciate that Mr Bob Mabena belonged to many South Africans, due to lock down regulations we will not be able to accommodate all people who may wish to pay their last respect. We wish to encourage people to fell free and set up their own virtual memorial services in honour.” Power FM said.

The deceased was recognised as an inspirational figure who was passionate about radio and had a lot to offer to the residents of Tshwane. The media legend died on Monday following a cardiac arrest. Born and bred in Atteridgeville township in Pretoria West, who later settled in Centurion, South until his passing.

Tshwane metro has joined millions of South Africans to express their heartfelt condolences to Bob Mabena’s family and the entire Power FM family. The Head Administrator of Tshwane, Mpho Nawa has portrayed Mabena as a person who knew who he was and where he came from.

“Bob worked for various stations in Johannesburg, including his recent employer, Power FM, but remained rooted in the City of his birth. He loved Tshwane and participated in many activities hosted by the municipality. The people of Tshwane, who constitute majority of callers to various Power FM shows will sorely him,”

“A legend that was adept at deejaying, singing and anchoring a current affairs show has fallen, but his memory will linger on for generations to come. May his departed soul find eternal peace.” Nawa said.
