The City of Tshwane’s Environment and Agriculture Management Department has on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, distributed thousands of day-old broiler chicks in Winterveld for broiler production.
The City’s MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management, Katlego Mathebe, said this was an initiative under the Farmer Production Support Unit, a component of Agrri-parks programme.
“It will see a total of 30 000 day-old broiler chicks distributed to Winterveld farmers,” said Mathebe.
Mathebe says Agriculture-parks is a programme implemented to kickstart the rural economic transformation For identified rural regions countrywide.
“The aim of these units is to provide farmers with access to good quality inputs, mechanisation and extension support, training, logistics, primary produce collection and market intelligence,”
She said currently a total of 18 smallholder farmers have received the chicks with 16 more farmers to get their share in the next few days.
“The farmers have also received broiler feeds and refresher training,” she added.
