City of Tshwane donates wheelchair and walker rollators to the elderly

The City of Tshwane Community and Social Development Services Department donated one wheelchair and four walker rollators to the Danville Old Age Home this week.

This comes after the department interacted with the management of the facility, where they requested assistance from the City.

The MMC for Community and Social Development Services Thabisile Vilakazi said it became clear during their visit to the old age home that some of their elderly residents were in need of the assistance in the form of walkers and a wheelchair.

“This need was made more urgent by the fact that some older persons at the home are required to travel to the designated Covid-19 vaccination sites,” said Vilakazi.

Vilakazi said the department moved quickly to procure the four walkers and a wheelchair and donated them right away.

This week, Tshwane launched the second phase of the City’s mass vaccinations programme.

Vilakazi has encouraged all the people over the age of 60 years to register for the Covid-19 vaccinations.

“Our Department will continue to its work to support the vulnerable in our communities. We believe that a little can indeed, go a long way to assist those in need,” she added.
