Community warned against car hijackings

Soweto community members are warned about the current hijackings that have been taking place in Mapetla, where one case of house robbery has been opened at Moroka Police Station. 

It is reported that one of the car hijacking victims was shot and injured during an incident that took place in Mapetla, and the criminal activities occurred from Friday night to Monday morning. 

Gauteng News spoke to Captain Khosa, spokesperson of Moroka Police Station, “In Sekhukhune Street in Mapetla there was an attempted hijacking of a JEEP where one of the victims was shot and injured. The second incident happened in Chiawelo, where the victim was hijacked and lost all hisvaluables. His vehicle was later recovered. Three more incidents happened at Dhlamini along Chris Hani Road where a Kia Rio was hijacked including a blue BMW and othervehicles”.

No arrests have been made and the victims were unable to identify the suspects. Captain Khosa elaborated further, about a gang of men who attack community members by approaching them with a car. Some of these suspects attack the unsuspecting victims from behind while walking on the street. 

Community members are warned to avoid parking cars outside from 23:30 pm to 3:30 am. 

“We ask the community to assist in apprehending the suspects and identify the registration number of the car. Should anyone have information kindly report and reach out to Colonel Mashele from Soweto West Trio 082 520 6950”, said Captain Khosa.
