DA says ANC to blame for the #Alexshutdown

#Alexshutdown protesters have taken to the streets to continue their service delivery march to Sandton on Monday morning. Residents have gathered at San kopano Centre, where they were meeting ahead of the protest.

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, said they have geared up with a large contingent of officers who have been deployed to main routes to Sandton as well as on minor roads.

The protest has since last week prompted a political battle between the Democratic Alliance and the African National Congress. The Democratic Alliance said that it has evidence the ANC officials are behind the unrest in Alexandra and wants the Independence Electoral Commission and the police to take action regarding this matter.

Meanwhile the party’s premier candidate, Solly Msimanga says he has seen a Watsapp message from the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) where some of the ANC official provoke protesters to destroy properties.

It’s been a week since Alexandra residents embarked on the protest calling on the government to respond to their grievances. Residents are complaining about poor service delivery and the mushrooming of illegal structure in the township, increasing number of informal settlements.
