Deputy Minister Bavelile Hlongwa dies in car crash

Deputy minister of mineral resources and energy BavelileHlongwa died Last Friday when she was struck by a truck while assisting a fellow motorist involved in another car accident. Hlongwa and her bodyguards had parked her car on the side of the N1 highway, from Polokwane, when tragedy struck.  

They had been travelling from Polokwane after attending the inauguration of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the chancellor of the University of Limpopo. Prior to this she and her friends were also in attendance at the ANC Women’s League’s 75th birthday anniversary. 

Hlongwa’s death comes as a shock to the whole African National Congress who have been sending condolences and words of comfort to the deputy minister’s family. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that she will be given an official state funeral. The police have since conducted an investigation into the cause of the accident.
