In the past five years, the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department has demonstrated authoritatively why it is rated as one of the top Emergency Services in the South African local government.
According to the Executive Mayor, Alderman Randall Williams, in five years the department managed to respond to over 45 000 Fire and Rescue incidents with over 75% of those incidents responded to within an average turnaround time of 14 minutes per incident.
Williams said, “Grass and plantation fires topped the list with over 12 000 incidents, followed by 5 437 residential fires. The department also conducted 28 818 risk-based building inspections to ensure that they comply with safety bylaws.”
He added that moving to their Medical Emergency Operations, the division attended to 239 298 incidents over the five-year term with the city also providing ambulance standby services to special government and public awareness events as well as sports and recreation events.
“To ensure that the city responds speedily to emergencies, in 2019 our Emergency Services launched a new and easy to remember 107 emergency number, it is free and available from any service provider,” Williams added.
Furthermore, he said the city delivered on its commitment to open new Emergency Services stations, that would include the one in Heuweloord in Centurion.
