Gauteng allocates over R60 million to fight GBV

Gauteng Community Safety, MEC Faith Mazibuko has announced that the provincial government has set aside over R60 million to help fight GBV.

Mazibuko made the announcement during the 2022 Gauteng vote.

“The Gauteng Community Safety has been allocated an amount of R 1 153 296 000.00 for the financial year 2022/23 to support the relentless efforts of building safer communities, through the implementation of the Growing Gauteng Together programme of action.”

According to Mazibuko a new programme has been adopted to fight gender-based violence.

“Gauteng Community Safety has allocated R65,898 million to fight the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide. The department has adopted a 365-Days Programme of Action to fight the scourge of GBV,” Mazibuko said.

She added that police visibility has been improved in the province.

“R36 million has been allocated to improve police visibility and R11. 8 million has been set aside for the implementation of the e-policing strategy which includes the establishment of the Command Centre as informed by safety priorities,” she confirmed.
