Gauteng allows for walk-ins at vaccination sites

The Gauteng provincial government has called on all citizens that are over 60 years and above , who are yet to vaccinate to go to their nearest vaccination site to be vaccinated.

Gauteng health spokesperson, Kwara Kekana says people who are not registered on the EVDS platform will be assisted when they visit the sites.

This announcement follows concerns over the slower rate of vaccination within the targeted group.

“The latest decision will ensure that many vulnerable citizens are served, and no person is to be turned away from vaccination sites,” says Kekana.

Kekana says Gauteng has increased the vaccination sites and plans to add more sites as vaccines becomes available.

“In addition to that, operating hours of Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital vaccination site have been extended to cover weekends,”

She says health workers are also assisting the elderly in their homes and other settings to register on the EVDS in preparation for vaccination.

“Getting vaccinated against Covid-19 remains one of the best ways to protect ourselves and loved ones,” adds Kekana.
