Gauteng government commits to fight corruption

The Gauteng provincial government is forging ahead with the fight against fraud and corruption and the drive to build a culture of integrity and ethics amongst public officials.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura on Thursday 9 September 2021 presented a report to the Gauteng provincial legislature which revealed that despite the setback of the irregular procument of PPE and other COVID-19 related goods and services, the provincial government efforts to fight corruption were bearing fruits.

Makhura said there was a vast improvement by all departments of the Gauteng government departments in terms of complying with the Integrity Management policies and implementation of findings of the Auditor General.

“More than 80% of all the recommendations arising from different forensic investigations are either fully implemented or being implemented,” said Makhura.

“There are 147 criminal cases opened, 69 civil claims lodged and 517 disciplinary processes instituted processes to recover public funds totalling R616 million.”

Makhura said the audits outcomes for all provincial departments and public entities continue to improve.

“During the past two years, 30% of all auditees received clean audit outcomes. The office of the premier continues to lead from the front having received clean audit outcomes for nine consecutive years,” he said.

Makhura said he will before the end of September release a detailed report on the performance of the provincial government.
