Gauteng launches road safety campaign

Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo has led a campaign in Krugersdorp on the R24 to encourage safe driving.

The safety campaign was launched in an effort to reduce the number of fatalities on the roads during the festive.

The Road Safety campaign will amplify messages of no drinking and driving, always buckling up, and promote daytime driving, vehicle roadworthiness, as well as pedestrian visibility.

Mamabolo says the R24 is notorious for a high number of accidents and deaths.

The MEC is urging travellers to stay at home this festive season.

He said they won’t just be exposed to accidents but they risk contracting COVID-19.

This intensified campaign will see scores of “Road Safety Ambassadors and Campaigners” throughout Gauteng’s Central Business Districts and surrounding areas joining the Minister and the beverage company to amplify the message of road safety.
