Health minister warns of a possible Covid-19 surge

The culminative number of Corona Virus cases in South Africa has reached 672 572, with a total of 903 new cases being recorded in the past 24 hours. 

The health department has recorded 81 new Covid-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 16,667 and the total number of recoveries is 606 520.  

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize warned of a possible surge of Covid-19.

“Our biggest worry is whether in fact this is the first surge and there might be another one”, pointing to the latest developments in Spain.

One of the worst affected countries in Europe, Spain is to use 2,000 soldiers trained in tracking to help regions identify those who have been exposed to infected people.

The total number of tests done is 4,164,491 with 12,011 new tests done.

More than 660,000 people have recovered from the virus.

This is a recovery rate of 90 percent.
