Hollard invests R1.3m for unemployed youth in Tshwane

The City of Tshwane in partnership with a local insurance company, Hollard Insurance has launched a fire hydrant initiative that will see the inspection and maintenance of fire hydrants in the city.

Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams was joined by CEO Nash Omar and various city’s administrative at an event which was held at the City’s Central Fire Station in Pretoria on Tuesday, 15 June 2022.

Hollard Insurance has committed R1.3 million towards the training, Stipends and travel allowance of about 15 young people who have been trained for this initiative.

Mayor Williams said the city sees the investment as an investment in its young people.

“This diverse group of young people expressed excitement over this project, particularly with the skills and experience they are gaining.

“It is important that we always incorporate youth in the work that we do, particularly during this month where we celebrate Youth Day on June 16.”

Williams says the fire hydrant initiative is driven by concerns of fire risk in urban centres.

“Recently, we have seen scores of devastating fires destroying public facilities, such as Parliament, Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and the University of Cape Town.”
