Hundreds of families started the new year on a high note when they welcomed their bundles of joy into the world in various hospitals.
That Gauteng Department of Health reported that 213 babies were delivered in public healthcare facilities on 1 January 2020 between 12h00 midnight and 12h00 pm.
Community Health Centres delivered 56 babies while District, Tertiary and Regional hospitals delivered 118 babies combined. In total 95 boys and 118 girls were born amounting to 213.
Gauteng Department of Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku congratulated the mothers of the newly-born babies and emphasised the importance of breastfeeding. He stated that breastfeeding is essential especially during the first 6 months regarding nutrition and the baby’s resilience to diseases.
“Let me extend my appreciation to the Gauteng Department of health workforce for working tirelessly throughout the year in ensuring that service delivery is not interrupted. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, let us continue saving lives”, said Masuku.
