The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) suspended Head of Transport Planning Department due to allegation of misconduct.
Allegation brought to Head of Department include planning to solicit a bribe from a potential JRA service provider.
Department of Transport MMC Nonhlanhla Makhuba said the head of transport planning is also alleged of conduct and behaviour in his capacity.
“In his capacity as Head of Department in Transport Planning, he disclosed confidential procurement processes to a potential JRA service provider. This happened while he was serving as a member of the Bid Adjudication Committee. According to the allegations, he would also constitute serious contravention of the JRA Code of Ethics”, he said.
The Head of Department was placed on immediate suspension in consideration of allegations against him and as a precautionary measure. Makhuba added that the suspension is done therefore to allow further investigations to be conducted in order to give more insight into the allegations in their entirety.
“It is disappointing that the Head of Department in a high and integral position can fail to uphold the roles and responsibilities bestowed upon him. We will not tolerate any action taken by any official entrusted with important responsibility that carries significant authority, in any form to give harm to our residents. We will not also allow them to fail in performing the duties assigned in line with by-laws and policies of the City of Johannesburg”, added Makhura.
He said as a leader of the Department, he support the decision made by the board and City. Makhura added that he will not hesitate to take decisive and appropriate action within the confines of the law.
