Mashaba stage Sit-in at Eskom following power-cuts in Soweto

The Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg, Cllr Herman Mashaba, has on Monday staged a sit-in at Eskom offices in Megawatt Park following his engagement with residents who have been plunged into darkness after Eskom cut off power to various parts of the township.

The Mayor has demanded to see senior Eskom officials at Eskom Headquarters to shine a spotlight on the plight of residents and demand, on their behalf, an immediate resolution to the crisis brought upon them by Eskom’s carelessness.

Residents have alleged that they have been without electricity, for up to two weeks, after Eskom cut off power to their homes.
However, through correspondence with the Office of the Executive Mayor, the families have been able to prove that their Eskom accounts are fully paid up.

Despite this, these innocent families now live in darkness because the power utility has lumped them together with residents who have not paid their Eskom accounts, some for a number of years.

The Mayor has insisted on not leaving the premises until Eskom officials agree to urgently meet with him on the matter.
