Medical aid schemes in hot water at Section 9 investigations

The South African Medical and Dental Practitioners say alleged fraudulent claims recouped by medical aid companies should be returned to patients.

The organisation made oral submissions at the Section 9 investigations into allegations of racial profiling by medical aid schemes.

General practitioner and executive at the organisation, Nkateko Mnisi, says money recouped from doctors who were found to be allegedly committing fraud is shared amongst forensic unit investigators, medical aid companies and administrators.

The investigations are believed to be conducted unlawfully as a way to exploit medical practitioners.
