MMC Serowa sod-turns roads and drainage system construction in Soshanguve

The Department of Roads and Transport MMC Dikeledi Serowa has today sod-turned a project of roads and drainage system construction, at Soshanguve in Pretoria.

Serowa said City of Tshwane has invested R19 million for construction of 1.4km tarred roads. She said construction will also be done on speed humps, storm-water drains, signage and boards.

“Construction will be of 1.432km internal roads from gravel to asphalt and 1.586km pavement. It will also include laying of 1.341km storm-water pipes from 450mm to 825mm diameter. Proper measures to close and secure all construction sites are called as Tshwane has many flooding hot spots. Soshanguve is a slope area and when it rains, residents are not able to drive to their homes easily. It is also sad that there are children who lost their lives in trenches and quarries recently. We also received a lot of petitions in need of infrastructure from residents therefore to get rid of this problem”, she added.

Serowa said contractors from Dolly Construction will not leave any sites open and unfenced when doing their work. She said this project will be complete in one year.

“We will do construction and maintenance daily in order to answer residents’ needs quickly. Due to heavy rains, there are no roads on this area. Companies will cover their trenches and put safety nets around quarries”, said Serowa.

Ward Councillor Eulenda Mabusela said she is pleased by community involvement on this project.
