Nine Dead, Ten Wounded in Mass Shooting at Bekkersdal Tavern

At least nine people have been killed and ten others injured in a devastating mass shooting at KwaNoxolo Tavern in the Tambo Section of Bekkersdal, plunging the community into shock and mourning.

According to preliminary information, armed suspects stormed the popular social venue late on Saturday night and opened fire indiscriminately on patrons. In a chilling turn of events, some victims were allegedly chased into nearby streets, where they were randomly targeted, leaving scenes of terror and bloodshed across the area.

Emergency medical services responded swiftly, stabilising the wounded before transporting them to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Authorities have confirmed that several victims remain in critical condition, while the full extent of injuries is still being assessed.

The South African Police Service has sealed off the tavern and surrounding streets as forensic teams comb the area for evidence. A manhunt is underway, with investigators working to establish the motive behind the attack and to track down those responsible.

No arrests had been made at the time of publication. Police have appealed to community members and anyone with information, video footage, or knowledge that could assist the investigation to come forward.

The incident has once again raised alarm over gun violence and public safety in Gauteng, with community leaders calling for urgent action to restore safety and bring perpetrators to justice.

This is a developing story. Gauteng News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
