The Minister of Police General Bheki Cele set to engage with troubled community residents in and around the township of Orange Farm area outside Johannesburg. Minister, Cele will host a Ministerial Imbizo at Chris Hani Sports Complex on Friday.
This follows several serious crime incidents which occurred recently. The community engagement will see the of Police Minister, alongside senior National and Provincial SAPS officials engage the Orange Farm community. Last month the Ant-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee has also called on communities to work with the police to combat crime.
“Most certainly we cannot expect the police to fight crime alone, it’s a responsibility of every citizen to help and to join hands with the law enforcement and create safer environment. We have to become eyes and ears for the law enforcement agencies, someone somewhere, somehow knows whose involve in crime or wrong doing.”
Since the start of lockdown last year there has been an increase crime which includes house break- ins and gender-based violence. Crime remains an ever-present threat in South Africa, hence a Ministerial Imbizo aim toaddress the community’s concerns around increased criminal activities.

Meanwhile, Orange Farm residents anticipate the Police minister to respond to their security needs whilst outlining a policing plan to tackle their crime concerns.
