Premier Makhura visits service delivery sites in the City of Ekurhuleni

Premier David Makhura with Ekurhuleni Mayor, Mzwandile Masina on Tuesday, 21 September 2021 visited various service delivery points in the City of Ekurhuleni, such as Masechaba water reservoir, Duduza swimming people and later at Monty Motloung Hall vaccination site in Duduza with MEC for Health, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi.

Premier Makhura said that the city had 29 water reservoirs in 2016 and over the past five years it has built an additional 29 reservoirs spending R1,2 billion.

“Once completed the reservoir we will address water shortage for residents in Tsakane. It will also increase the average storage of the entire City of Ekurhuleni from 24 hours to 36 hours by June 2022,” he said.

Premier Makhura exposed that he also inspected the newly built Duduza swimming pool project, that is 25X25m for adults and 8X8m for children.

“There is also a grandstand as well as change rooms, offices and a guard house. The swimming pool will be ready for hand over in a week’s time,” Premier Makhura added.

He mentioned that infrastructure like this make townships to be places where children will not be found in wrong places, they develop love for arts and sports,and it is a place of positive entertainment.

Premier Makhura continued with the visit and went to the Monty Motloung Hall vaccination site. While he and the MEC for Health were there he noted that Gauteng has yet reached another milestone on Monday, 20 September 2021, with 4,2 million vaccines administered.

“We are chasing to administer one million vaccinationsfor Ekurhuleni this week, I am confident that the city will definitely reach that milestone. At the provincial level we have administered 4,2 million vaccines,” he added.

“Yesterday we reached another milestone of 3 million people vaccinated with either one dose of Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson. We are chasing the third milestone which is 2 million fully vaccinated people.”

Premier Makhura added that all vaccination sites including pop-up and mobile units accept walk-ins to ensure that no one is left behind. The public is assisted with the registration process and vaccination.o
