Queen Elizabeth || dies at age 96

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth || of Great Britain and Northern Ireland after a 70-year reign at the age of 96. Less than 48 hours after Queen Elizabeth || was photographed appointing new Prime Minister Liz Truss, her doctors said they were “concerned”

Buckingham Palace announced the passing of the Queen on the afternoon of September the 8th, the cause of her death still remains unclear but according to the official statement, Her Majesty “died peacefully” at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Queen Elizabeth || is succeeded by her eldest son Prince Charles who will be now known as King Charles |||.  Large crowds paid their respects by lining up along the six-hour journey to bring the coffin to the Throne Room of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. The mournful onlookers broke out into scattered applause as the cortege passed. The procession’s first stop was in Ballater for a tribute event attended by officials including the queen’s representative in Aberdeenshire.

Royal officials have announced that the funeral of the Queen will take place on the 19th of September and her body will lie in the state for four days prior to the funeral. The new king will address British lawmakers in London for the first time after being announced as the new king.

Prince Andrew who is known as the Queen’s favourite son returned to the spotlight on Monday, walking behind the queen’s coffin alongside King Charles, Princess Royal and Prince Edward.  An early morning rehearsal on Tuesday, 13 September for the procession of Queen Elizabeth’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westmister Hall, London, where it will lie in state until her funeral on Monday, 19 September.

Mourners, some weeping, and others with heads bowed or curtsying walked slowly past the coffin after having waited patiently for hours to be allowed into the cathedral.

“We were very upset. It was so emotional. It brought it all home,” said Michael Hainsworth, 70, a retired music teacher, who was comforting his crying wife and had been one of the first to enter the cathedral to see the coffin.

“It is hard to put into words. You don’t think it will hit you but then it does,” said Hainsworth, who had queued for seven hours.
