Rand water plans a 54 hour water outage in Gauteng

City of Johannesburg bulk water supplier, Rand Water will be working on their raw water pipe that supplies the Vereeniging water purification plant.

Johannesburg Water External Communication Officer, Eleanor Mavimbela says that the purification plant will not operate on 15 November 2021 from 5am for a period of 54 hours, as a result of working on a raw water pipe that supplies the Vereeniging water purification plant.

“This will unfortunately impact on water supply from the Rand Water Eikenhof pump station to the South of Johannesburg CBD, Northern and Western areas as the supply will be reduced by 25%,” Mavimbela said.

She added that water supply from the Rand Water Swaartkoppies system to the central CBD will also be reduced by 50%.

In a statement released, Mavimbela mentioned that water supply reduction will result in poor to no water supply during peak water demand periods in most high laying and high demand areas.

“Stationary and roaming water tankers will be made available where feasible to reduce the impact to consumers,” Mavimbela added.
