The new Rand West City Executive Mayor, Cllr. Gladys Khoza, spent her whole week this past week inspecting schools and communities in her constituency to find out directly from the citizens what is needed from her as their new Executive Mayor. Touring schools with councilors and organizations such as the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, her inspections were done to better assess schools and community’s condition and judge what can be done to improve those.
Members of the Mayoral Council (MMCs) provincial representatives of the Department Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ward Councilors, school principals, teachers and a representative of a local businesses also joined in. They were present to play their part in bringing service delivery. The Scientologists were brought in to assist in providing practical tools which they have and which can effectively contribute in the betterment of the schools and the community.
At the onset of the last visit of the week at the Malerato Primary school, the Mayor assured all attendees that this was not going to be her last visit. Emphasizing that education is of the absolute top priority for her, she promised, “I will not just come this once and then forget about you. I will visit the schools in the area every school term and we will take note of where things stand and plan what is needed going forward.”
Principal Georgina van Wyk of the school was very enthusiastic to meet the Mayor and representatives of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers after hearing about their leading education intervention program known as Study Technology. Being an innovative program, she demanded to meet with them separately to know more about it as she too has very much at heart the better well-being of her students.
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers who have been relentless in their effort to keep the municipality safe from covid-19 for the last 600+ days expressed their gratitude for being present for the visits so they can lend a hand in improving society. “That’s all we are about – helping and servicing our communities selflessly,” said Ann Colvin, representative of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, the local humanitarian NPO which helped on the frontlines since day 1 of lockdown with free decontamination, wellness educations and free skills development everywhere. “We were thrilled to support Cllr. Gladys Khoza during the inspections. That gave us a better idea on the tools we can offer to turn the situation in the area around for the better, much better!”, added Colvin.
On his part, Mr. Robert Pombo, the owner of the local business that had donated school bags was also very delighted to have been invited and said “I have just started giving back to the community and it really feels great.”
After the visit, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers were then invited to join the Executive Mayor as Disaster Management experts in a tour of a local rural township to assess water damage caused by heavy rainfall the night before and this concluded the day.
The Executive Mayor expressed her gratitude to the NPO and said “Thank you for being with us the entire time. I am so very grateful for your participation and assistance. You are part of our community now and I’m looking forward to more engagement with you and what programs we can do together.”
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers have donated over 1.2 million hours of volunteer work on the front lines since lock-down hit the country. They attribute their efficiency to the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard who provided Tools for Life courses which anyone can do to help themselves and others. According to Colvin, this is where they take their strength.
