SABC financial woes continues

SABC’s Chief Financial Officer Yolandi van Biljon has warned that Day Zero is imminent as the broadcaster had to choose between paying salaries or municipal bills this month.

Speaking on 702 Aubrey Tshabalala, General Secretary of the Communications Workers Union says the communications regulator, Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), needs to be involved.

Tshabalala said that the union agreed with the condition that a task team should be set up to ensure that they oversee the turnaround strategy.

“You cannot throw money into a bottomless pocket.” Said Tshabalala

Meanwhile the union is opposing job cuts at the public broadcaster.

“This is very lazy thinking to say that to cut jobs saves funds. It never works and is not a very thoughtful strategy.” Said Tshabalala.
