Gauteng News has been covering a potential strike that could have occurred in the security industry, however, it was confirmed that the South African Private Security Workers Union (SAPSWU) had reached a temporary agreement with security employers.
According to the agreement 2019/2022 salary increase shall be 8.75 percent plus R175.00 premium for year one, 8.72 percent increase plus R270.00 premium and R100.00 hospital cover for two years. Lastly, 8.7 percent increase plus R37.00 premium and R150.00 hospitalcover for the third year.
SAPSWU met after the salary agreement at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) was reached. An signed agreement had been reached by the members and was submitted to the Minister of Labour for declaration.
“The full salary details including hourly rates will be reflected inside the Government Gazette once it is released. The percentages, as given on our previous feedback, remain the same. This will be a three year agreement and the next round of negotiations will start in 2021, whereby demands will be collected for negotiations. This means that the dispute between parties has been resolved”, said Vernon Ratshili, General Secretary of SAPSWU.
Furthermore, the union adds that there’s no dispute between them and the employer, therefore, there will be no need to take action for a national strike. On the other hand, some security employees feel the negotiations were manipulated and union leaders may have been influenced by the employer to reach the current agreement.
