The South African Private Security Workers’ Union (SAPSWU) reached a deadlock with the employers maintaining their offer of five percent and a slight salary increase for the next three years.
“Five percent simply means the salary will increase byR218.85 for the first year. On the second year it will increase to R229.79 and R241.28 by the third year.
Therefore, the matter will be taken to CCMA but if it fails a strike certificate will be issued and a date for the planned protest will be announced” said General Secretary of SAPSWU, Vernon Ratshili.
SAPSWU will be having another mediation meeting on the 16th of October to try to negotiate and persuade the employers while waiting for the CCMA’s intervention.
“As SAPSWU we are demanding 7.5 percent for grade C, R8000 for grade D, and R8500 for grade A. we are planning to meet with the CCMA on the 23rd should we have not reached an agreement with the employer, then we will release a strike certificate that will issue the date of the strike,” said Ratshili.
Currently security guards are earning R4500 and they are demanding medical aid access from their employers.
