It has been sad that the ANC Greater Johannesburg Chairperson, Geoff Makhubo passed on. His passing left a leading position of an Executive Mayor in the City of Joburg and the ANC has the responsibility of appointing the new Executive Mayor as the leading party in the city.
The ANC Women League said that the Greater Johannesburg Regional Executive Committee met and decided on who will take on the late Geoff’s position. “The ANCWL’s preferred candidature was determined along the existing organisational processes, consistent with the ANC’s Cadre Deployment policy and through the Eye of the Needle,” added the ANCWL.
ÁNCWL says that they resolved to support Sibongile Eunice Mgcina, the Deputy Chairperson and currently acting Chairperson of ANC to be the new Executive Mayor in the City of Joburg.
Mgcina has over 20 years being with ANCWL. She joined the ANCWL as a Proportional Representation Councillor in 2011. ANCWL states that she has been serving as a Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development in 2020.
ANCWL added that Mgcina’s uncompromising, principled, strong and ethical leadership style made her the ideal candidate to serve as the Executive Mayor. “Her governance and political outlook places her ahead of her peers,” says the ANCWL.
“The ANCWL calls on all structures and residents of the City of Joburg to rally behind their preferred candidature, as part of accelerating services delivery and improving the lives of our people, particularly women, children and other vulnerable persons, in line with the ANC’s electoral commitments,” concluded the ANCWL.
