Nokukhanya Shange comes from humble beginnings in Orlando West, Soweto and as a young woman growing up in a township she was uncomfortable with her appearance and never felt beautiful because of her skin problem. In 2012 Nokukhanya was inspired to start Sisters Beautician when she quit her day job with no financial backing. Her aim was to help young women who experience low self-esteem and low self-confidence due to their physical appearance and skin problems.
Sishange spoke to Gauteng News, “The mission and vision behind See Stars Beautician is to encourage and instill self-confidence and self-love to young people in Soweto and as time went on I decide to work with my cousin Hlengiwe who is very good in mathematics and we decided to incorporate our passions to help and ignite self-love to young people in the township. Hlengiwe started to teach people who had a problem with mathematics and she encouraged education, whilst, I dealt with encouraging self-confidence through treating skin problem with my beautician skills”.
See Stars Beautician started with four employees and currently sits with a staff compliment of 11.
The organization is operating in Vilakazi Street, Orlando West and does not only focus on the youth but old people who might have skin issues. Through her products and treatment she is able to assist her customers overcome their challenges and ignite self-confidence.
“See Stars Beautician believes in prioritizing in education and investing in the younger generation. In the next two years I aspire to open my coffee and book shop in Vilakazi as we are in a tourist attraction area”said Nokukhanya.
